How to Make Tortilla Casserole

The following set of instructions explains in detail the steps to making tortilla casserole. Tortilla casserole takes approximately 15 minutes to prepare and 1 hour to bake. It is considered a tex-mex dish and it goes great with rice or chips and salsa.

Ingredients needed:
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 small onion
  • 1 can of cream of chicken soup
  • small box of velveeta cheese
  • 1 package of corn tortillas
  • 1 can of ranch style beans
  • 1 can of ro-tel tomatoes
  • 3 tbls. chili powder
  • 2 tsp. garlic salt
  • you will also need a 9x13 baking dish

Instructions:

Note- Do not drain the beans or ro-tel before adding them to the casserole

  1. Pre heat the oven to 350
  2. Place the ground beef in a large skillet
  3. Heat at medium high on the stove until the meat is brown
  4. Season the meat with 3 tbls. chili powder
  5. Sprinkle in the 2 tsp garlic salt
  6. Mix well
  7. Once the meat is brown remove it from the heat and drain
  8. While waiting for the meat to brown, dice the onion into small pieces
  9. Next, slice the velveeta into 1/2 in. thick pieces
  10. Place 4-5 tortillas onto a plate
  11. Make a horizontal and vertical cut across the tortillas creating four even sections
  12. Line the bottom of the baking dish with half of the tortillas
  13. Pour the ground beef over the tortillas
  14. Pour the ranch style beans over the meat
  15. Sprinkle the onions over the beans
  16. Place a layer of velveeta cheese over the onion
  17. Cover the velveeta with the other half of the tortillas
  18. Using a spoon completely cover the tortillas with the cream of chicken soup
  19. Pour the ro-tel on top of the cream of chicken soup
  20. Cover tightly with foil
  21. Place in oven
  22. Bake for one hour at 350 degrees
  23. After one hour remove from oven
  24. Let the casserole cool for 10 minutes before serving
